You Are A Mom

Today is Mother’s Day.

If you are a first mom, you are a mom. Happy Mother’s Day.

If you are an adoptive mom, you are a mom. Happy Mother’s Day.

If you are a foster mom, you are a mom. Happy Mother’s Day.

If you gave birth to your kids, even if you’re not able to be there for everything, you are a mom. Happy Mother’s Day.

If you didn’t birth them, but you’re there for everything else, you’re a mom. Happy Mother’s Day.

If you had your kids biologically, with no intervention, and you only had to blink to get pregnant, you are a mom. Happy Mother’s Day.

If you needed the help of a surrogate, a donor, and/or any other ART to have kids, you are a mom. Happy Mother’s Day.

If your child(ren) is lost to you, because of pregnancy loss, stillbirth, birth defects, prematurity, adoption, medical termination, divorce and custody arrangements, or any other reason your child(ren) is not with you now, you are a mom. Happy Mother’s Day.

There are all kinds of mothers and all kinds of mothering. On this day, at least, let us all stop the Mommy Rat Race. Let’s not quantify who is doing what and who deserves that coveted title.

Let’s embrace one another. This day.

Happy Mother’s Day to all the mothers everywhere.

I don’t know what category I am in..I am a mom because my former lesbian partner biologically had our child. But my daughter at 3 looked a lot like I did when I was 3. So I figure I was meant to be her mom.
And I never for once questioned she she was my daughter.
Thanks for the great wishes…to you as well!

Oh, Moonspun, I think this one fits: If you didn’t birth them, but you’re there for everything else, you’re a mom. Happy Mother’s Day.

And let me add this: To anyone who is mothering in any of the ways I invariably forgot on this simple little list, you are a mom. Happy Mothers Day.
